Los Angeles Community Colleges has close to 50,000 work orders to date and several thousand new work orders per month. Find out how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to create value from this mountain of data.
Maintenance and Operations Driven by Artificial Intelligence
Doing More with Less
Nov. 7, 2023, 11 am - 12:15 pm
Community College Facility Coalition (CCFC) Conference
The session centers on harnessing BIMgenie Workorders with Artificial Intelligence.
How LACCD uses data to foster resilient, digitally advanced campuses - a pioneering endeavor within the nation's largest community college district.
Key highlights of the presentation will include:
This platform-driven approach not only enhances the understanding of digital twins but also democratizes the data analytics process. It is a significant stride in transforming human-driven analysis by making it accessible to a broader audience - from students to staff and faculty to maintenance personnel, enriching the educational experience and the connections between operations and data analytics.
Join us to discover how LACCD is leading this AI-driven transformation and envision the potential it holds for all stakeholders involved.

The session centers on harnessing BIMgenie Workorders with Artificial Intelligence.
How LACCD uses data to foster resilient, digitally advanced campuses - a pioneering endeavor within the nation's largest community college district.
Key highlights of the presentation will include:
- The District's adoption of a robust cloud architecture.
- The creation of digital twins representing the physical systems across all nine colleges.
- The journey towards leveraging these digital twins to capture and analyze operational data from building assets.
- The goal is clear: to harness data-driven feedback to amplify efficiency by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI). As we accumulate richer datasets, we anticipate AI's deep learning and machine learning capabilities to refine operational efficiency further.

Peggy M. Quijada de Franke
Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities and Sustainability
- What is your definition of an asset and asset management or asset leadership?
- Anything that adds value to LACCD, in particular, for facilities is anything that is infrastructure, or equipment that allows us to function efficiently and provide the services that are required from us.
James Buchanan:
Director of Maintenance and Operations-Diablo Valley College
- What is an asset?
- What I typically consider an asset is anything that has a lifecycle associated with it, for example, a piece of equipment would be an air handler, HVAC unit, may have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years. Over the duration of its life, we track that piece of equipment through our computer maintenance program, through preventive maintenance.
- What did you think of the session with this morning on the potential use of AI with facility data?
- You said you have to ask the right question. In order for AI to come back with an answer. And I liked that part about that work and process, communicate, predict, and actually even notify the technician.
