Since 2007, BIMStorm has brought together thousands of participants to explore new ways to plan, design, build, operate, and improve the built environment through collaborative problem solving.
Today, we're entering the next chapter.

Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Building Energy Modeling (BEM), semantic interoperability, operational technology, open standards, and trusted communities are converging faster than ever before.

Rather than creating another conference or another software platform, Become the Building™ expands BIMStorm into a continuous platform for learning, collaboration, experimentation, and real-world implementation, where people, AI, and buildings learn together through operational missions.

Over the past several years,we have had the privilege of working with owners, universities, national laboratories, standards organizations, technology companies, and researchers on many of the industry's most advanced initiatives.
One thing has become increasingly clear.

The individual technologies are advancing rapidly.
The conversations are beginning to converge.

AI is accelerating at an extraordinary pace, but our industry's ability to connect people, knowledge, standards, and real operational experience is struggling to keep up.

Rather than allowing the next generation of AI to evolve into another collection of disconnected silos, Become the Building™ provides a common framework where these communities can learn together, experiment together, and shape the future together.

How the Journey WorksBecome the Building™ is a year-round collaborative initiative rather than a single conference event. Virtual Mission Workshops, partner webinars, working sessions, and live demonstrations allow participants to contribute ideas, scenarios, data, and operational knowledge over time.
Each activity expands the shared missions and living operational graph. Major gatherings—including Greenbuild, buildingSMART, ASHRAE, Digital Twin Summit, AIA, and others—provide opportunities to demonstrate progress, welcome new participants, and launch the next phase of collaboration.

Ways to ParticipateJoin a Mission Workshop
Participate remotely in interactive exercises using actual buildings, operational scenarios, structured data, and shared knowledge graphs.
Bring an Owner Perspective
Owners can contribute their challenges, successes, buildings, data requirements, and lessons learned. Selected participants may also join public discussions about preparing portfolios for AI, sustainability, resilience, and trusted operational intelligence.

Choose one or more missions, or build something entirely new in the Developer Sandbox.

Mission 1. Keep People Comfortable
- Experience how occupants, building systems, and AI work together to optimize comfort while minimizing energy use.
Mission 2. Balance Building Energy
- Coordinate solar, batteries, utilities, and AI to make intelligent real-time energy decisions.
Mission 3. Protect the Grid
- Negotiate with the electric grid to balance building needs, renewable energy, and utility requirements.
Mission 4. Emergency Response
- Share trusted building information to help occupants and first responders react quickly and safely during emergencies.
Mission 5. Stop the Cyber Attack
- Determine who and what can be trusted when unexpected devices or software appear on the building network.
Mission 6. Achieve Net Zero
- Use operational data, AI, and sustainability strategies to improve building performance and reduce carbon.
Mission 7. Fix the Building
- Follow a problem from initial report through work order completion using people, AI, and facility operations.
Mission 8. Decide Who to Trust
- Explore governance, permissions, and human oversight as AI agents request authority to act.
Mission 9. Run the Campus
- Manage multiple buildings, competing priorities, limited resources, and portfolio-wide operational decisions.
Mission 10. Think Like an AI Agent
- Reason across semantic relationships, explain recommendations, and collaborate with people to improve building operations.
Mission 11. Survive the Habitat
- Apply the same principles of intelligent buildings to future lunar or Martian habitats where every decision affects survival.
Mission X. Developer Sandbox & Challenges
- Extend the experience beyond the guided missions. Build AI agents, dashboards, applications, visualizations, simulations, robotics integrations, semantic models, or entirely new building services using shared GitHub repositories, RDF knowledge graphs, cloudBIM APIs, IFC models, time-series data, and the Semantic Bridge. Every contribution expands the shared ecosystem and demonstrates how intelligence emerges through open collaboration rather than isolated platforms.

Every mission explores one aspect of an intelligent building.
Together, they reveal how people, AI, systems, and trusted communities create a living digital twin.

Greenbuild AI Summit: October 20, 2026 New York
Become the Building™ will be part of a connected day exploring how the built environment moves from AI ideas to trusted implementation. The program will include an opening perspective on AI and infrastructure intelligence, an interactive Become the Building mission using the PAE Living Building, live operational demonstrations collaborators, and a concluding owner discussion about preparing buildings and portfolios for AI.

Greenbuild is an important milestone in an ongoing community of practice that began before the event and will continue afterward through new missions, buildings, partners, and implementations.

Become the Building™ is an open, year-round collaborative initiative. Conferences such as Greenbuild, buildingSMART, ASHRAE, Digital Twin Summit, and others serve as opportunities to share progress, engage new participants, and launch new missions, not as the beginning or end of the work.
